GUNNISON, Colo. - Southwest Minnesota State rebounded from its first dual loss of the season with wins in its final three bouts at the Tracy Borah duals. SMSU is now 10-1 on the season in dual matches - matching last season's total.
SMSU used a 28-15 victory over California Baptist and 25-18 victory over Colorado State-Pueblo before defeating Western State Colorado 19-17 on Saturday. SMSU lost earlier in the day to No. 14 Colorado Mesa 32-9.

SMSU exploded with four straight match wins to open the dual. Travis Borcher (decision),
Justin Reinsma (decision),
Devin Terry (fall) and
Cody Fritz (decision) put SMSU up 15-0 just four bouts in.
Travis Longtin fell in the 157 bout but
Jacob Begin knotted four points with a major decision in the 165 bout. The four points from Begin's major decision became SMSU's last points of the dual as WSCU secured the last four bouts with a major decision and three decisions.

SMSU lost the opening bout by fall, but
Devin Terry and
Ethan Hildebrandt both responded with wins (forfeit and fall) to put SMSU up 12-6. SMSU would drop the next to bouts as
Codie Lane and
Travis Longtin both fell by decision which tied the score. SMSU would take the next three bouts as
Jacob Begin,
Andrew Rodas and
Micah Larson won by fall, major decision and decision. SMSU held a 25-12 advantage heading into the 197 and 285 bout. SMSU dropped the last two bouts but limited CSP's scoring to just six points.
SMSU vs. Cal Baptist recap:
SMSU lost the opening bout by fall, but
Justin Reinsma put SMSU on the board with a maj. dec. victory to make the score 6-4 in favor of Cal. Baptist. SMSU fell behind 9-4 after the 141 lb. match, but SMSU's Cody Lane won by fall at 149 to give SMSU the lead at 10-9. Ca. Baptist regained the lead at 12-10 at 157, before SMSU answered with four straight victories to build a 28-12 lead.
Jacob Begin started the run with a win by tech. fall to give SMSU a 15-12 lead and the Mustangs never looked back.

Justin Reinsma and
Jacob Begin were the only Mustangs to secure points in Southwest Minnesota State's 32-9 loss to Colorado Mesa at the 23rd annual Tracy Borah Duals hosted by Western State Colorado University. The loss was the first defeat the Mustangs have surrendered all season in dual matches.
SMSU (10-1) will begin Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action on Friday, Jan. 18 versus Augustana.
