MARSHALL, Minn. - Miranda Cadena scored her ninth goal of the season in the 11th minute to lift No. 21 Southwest Minnesota State to a 1-0 victory over Upper Iowa in Northern Sun Intercollegiate action on Saturday. The win was SMSU's first over Upper Iowa since the 2007 season.

At 10:52, Kendahl Fisher flipped in a perfect pass that found Cadena just yards in front of the goal and the sophomore forward lobbed a shot over the keeper for her ninth goal of the season. Cadena is now just one goal shy from recording double-digit goal scored -- a feat that hasn't been done by a Mustang since Joelle Dean in 2004. The assist was Fisher's seventh of the season and it marks the most assists in a single season by a Mustang since Nadia AbuAyed in 2004.

Denae Brooks made her season debut as she made her first career start in goal. The junior college transfer played well and earned her first career shutout while making one save on eight shots faced. SMSU now has shutout seven of its 11 opponents this season.

With its 11 wins, SMSU ties the single season record for wins in a season. The 1999 Mustangs finished 11-9-1.

SMSU will look for its record-setting 12th win tomorrow afternoon against Winona State. SMSU has never defeated the Warriors in program history (0-25-2). Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at The Schwan Regional Event Center in Marshall.
