SMSU soccer captures its program-record 12th win of the season

BOX SCORE

The Southwest Minnesota State soccer team won its program-record 12th game of the season as the Mustangs defeated MSU Moorhead 3-1 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action on Saturday. The win broke the record of 11 wins set by the 1999 Mustangs.

Vanesa Corona would get the scoring started early for SMSU as Kendahl Fisher found her open in front of the net for a one-on-one. Corona didn't waste the golden opportunity as she placed the shot right as the goalie went left for her second goal of the season. The assist was Fisher's eighth of the season moving her in a tie for second most in SMSU single-season history.

The Mustangs would get their second goal just before the half when Natalie Zobel found Kayla Williams for a goal. It was the first goal of the season for the senior forward.

Quickly out of the half it was the Dragons that got on the scoreboard with a Lana Laudermilch goal assisted by Erin Nyberg in the 47th minute.

Justine Hauck would get her fourth goal of the season at the 68:56 mark to give SMSU a two-goal cushion. The goal came unassisted.

SMSU (12-1, 9-1 NSIC) will continue action tomorrow afternoon versus Northern State in Aberdeen, S.D.
