BEMIDJI, Minn. — Southwest Minnesota State volleyball defeated Bemidji State tonight 3-1 in the BSU Gymnasium by scores of 23-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-19.
 
Kenzie Beekman paved the way for the Mustangs as she recorded 14 kills while hitting .387 on the night. Eisha Oden and Abbey Thissen added 13 kills each while hitting .400 and .280, respectfully. Oden also added a pair of blocks. Megan Larson powered the offense with 46 assists on the night while Whitney Burmeister posted 15 digs along with Jessica Thelemann contributing 10.
 
Bemidji State took control of set one as the Beavers led 16-6 at one point. SMSU charged back and narrowed the deficit down to 22-19 but could not pull off the come back despite back-to-back kills by Eisha Oden to put the Mustangs down one at set point. BSU took the first set 25-23.
 
Both team traded point in the second set as the score was tied at 15-15. SMSU took the lead shortly after and tied the match up at one apiece taking the set 25-22.
 
After the intermission, both teams battled again to take the lead in the third set. After an 11-11 score, the Mustangs took advantage of errors from the Beavers and took the lead the rest of the set and closed it, 25-19.
 
SMSU jumped out first in the fourth set to take the lead and continued to build on it. The Mustangs led 17-8 at one point and held the lead the rest of the game to take the match and the set by a score of 25-19.
 
Southwest Minnesota State will continue its road trip as the Mustangs play Minnesota Crookston tomorrow after noon at 4 p.m. in the Lysaker Gymnasium.
