Following a punt on SMSU's first drive, the Vikings put together an impressive 83-yard scoring drive that took more than seven minutes off the clock. Heid capped the drive with a 5-yard touchdown pass to Matt Heller to make the score 12-0 late in the opening quarter.

SMSU put together its first points of the game on its second drive of the game with Mike Wenk booting a 24-yard field goal early in the second quarter to make the score 12-3.

Following punts by both squads, the Vikings added to the lead with Heid scoring on a 1-yard run with 4:21 left in the half to extend the lead to 19-3 into halftime.

SMSU's opening drive of the second half ended with an interception and Augustana quickly took advantage to add to the lead. On third-and-five from the Augustana 43-yard line, Heid completed a 12-yard pass to Charlie Hayes to keep the drive alive and then moments later connected with Nick Lee for a 38-yard pass completion. Heid closed the drive with a 4-yard pass to Hayes to push the margin to 26-3 midway through the third quarter.

SMSU was forced to punt on its next possession and the Vikings special teams came through with another score.
