OPENING KICK
The Southwest Minnesota State soccer team will start Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament action after it went 2-0 the past weekend against Wayne State and No. 23 Augustana. SMSU received the No. 6 seed and will travel to the No. 3 seed Winona State for the first round of the Northern Sun Intercollege Conference tournament.
OPPONENTS AT A GLANCE
WINONA STATE — Winona State will enter the NSIC tournament with a 13-4-1 overall record and 10-4-1 in conference play. WSU closed the regular season play with a loss in Mankato, Minn., against Minnesota State, 2-0. Before the final loss, the Warriors were 0-2-1 losing to Concordia-St. Paul at home and Bemidji State and tying with Minnesota Crookston on the road.
THE SERIES
Southwest Minnesota State and Winona State will meet for the 30th time on Wednesday night with WSU leading
27-0-2 in a series that started back in 1996. SMSU is 0-14-1 while playing in Winona. This will be the first time since 2007 and 7th in program history that Winona State and Southwest Minnesota State will meet in the NSIC tournament.

If SMSU defeats Winona State it would play the winner of the Augustana / Minnesota Duluth game in Mankato, Minn., Friday, Nov. 7 at 12 p.m.
