The Southwest Minnesota State University soccer team and No. 1 Grand Valley State (Mich.) will meet for the first time in program history on Friday as the Mustangs will travel to Mankato, Minn., to play the reigning national champion. Kickoff slated to be at 3 p.m. Grand Valley State was 24-0-1 in 2013 and claimed its third NCAA Division II national championship in the past five seasons.

SMSU opens 2014 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play this Sunday facing Sioux Falls at the Schwan Regional Event Center. The NSIC opening game will be played under the lights with game time set for 6 p.m.
