Mustangs travel north to face No. 4 Minnesota Duluth

    THIS WEEK: Southwest Minnesota State University (1-1 NSIC, 0-0 NSIC South) travels to Duluth, Minn., to take on No. 4 Minnesota Duluth (2-0 NSIC, 0-0 NSIC North) on Saturday, Sept. 20. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. at Malosky Stadium on the campus of UMD. UMD has appeared in the Division II Top 25 poll every week since 2008.

    A VICTORY FOR SMSU ON SATURDAY WOULD...:
    •Be its first over UMD since Sept. 25, 1999, snapping a seven-game streak.
    •Be just its second victory all-time in Duluth.
    •Be it first ever win over a nationally ranked Division II team.
    •Lift SMSU's all-time record to 178-293-5, including 116-199-5 in conference play.

    SMSU STORYLINES:
    •SMSU has scored 30 or more points in 17 of its last 26 games dating back to the final game of the 2011 season.
    •SMSU's 56 points last week versus Minnesota Crookston was its highest point total since scoring 63 versus South Dakota Tech in 2006.
    •Charlie Kern rushed for a career-high 62 yards and a career-high three touchdowns last week versus Minnesota Crookston.
    •Mike Wenk tied a career-high with a 42-yard field goal last Saturday nigh versus UMC.
    •Wenk booted three field goals in the win over UMC becoming the first SMSU kicker to make three field goals in a game since 2007.
    •SMSU scored 50 or more points in four games last season setting a new program record. SMSU scored 40 or more points in six games in 2013, ranking second behind the 1991 team which holds the record with eight 40-point games.
    •Tyler Tonderum ranks 16th among all active players in Division II with 2,301 career rushing yards.
    •Tyler Tonderum rushed for more than 100 yards in five straight games twice last season becoming just the second SMSU player in team history (Shad Peckenpaugh,1985) to do so.
    •Tonderum has a school record four 200-yard rushing games in his career.
    •Tonderum set the SMSU single-season record for rushing touchdowns with 19 in 2013.
    •Tonderum finished the 2013 season ranked 14th in Division II in scoring with 19 rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown. He scored at least two touchdowns in seven games.
