SMSU earns hard-fought victory over Concordia-St. Paul

MARSHALL, Minn. -
Autumn Hayes scored on a penalty kick in the 61st minute to lead Southwest Minnesota State to a 1-0 victory over Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday at the Schwan Regional Event Center.

Concordia-St. Paul played right with Southwest Minnesota State as neither team scored in the first half of play. The Mustangs had six shots in the first period to Golden Bears four.
 
SMSU finally scored in the 61st minute by a penalty kick by Autumn Hayes. The goal was Hayes' third goal of the season and her second penalty kick goal. Hayes holds the school record for penalty kicks made with eight.
 
SMSU fired 13 shots in the match, seven of them being on goal. Concordia-St. Paul tallied five shots, only three being on goal.
 
Southwest Minnesota State (3-2, 2-0 NSIC) will play No. 2 Minnesota State tomorrow at the Schwan Regional Event Center at 1 p.m. The Mustangs are promoting a "white-out" for the game.
