SMSU suffers first NSIC loss to No. 2 Minnesota State

MARSHALL, Minn.— The Southwest Minnesota State soccer team was defeated by No. 2 Minnesota State Sunday afternoon at the Schwan Regional Event Center, 2-0.
 
The Mustangs kept up with the high-powered MSU offense in the first half of play, as the both teams were scoreless going into intermission. Minnesota State had five shots in the first half as Southwest Minnesota State had four.
 
Korey Kronforst found the back of the net in the 62nd minute for her fifth goal of the season off assists from Kiana Nickel and Dana Savino to put the Mavericks up 1-0.
 
Minnesota State tacked on one more that started from an Emily Moris corner kick that led Kiana Nickel to her second goal of the season.
 
SMSU had five shots in the match, just three being on goal. MSU led with 15 shots included six on goal.
 
Southwest Minnesota State (3-3, 2-1 NSIC) will start a four game road trip as they travel to Minot, N.D., to take on Minot State on Saturday, Sept. 27. Kick slated to be at 11 a.m.
