FHSU spoils SMSU's home opener

MARSHALL, Minn.
—Fort Hays State spoiled Southwest Minnesota State's season opener Friday night, earning a 4-1 victory at the Schwan Regional Event Center. It was the season opener for both teams.

The Tigers scored in the 16th and the 37th minute to build a 2-0 half time lead. FHSU scored a pair of goals in the second half to increase their lead to 4-0.<dfn><a href=Kara Whiting" src="/common/controls/image_handler.aspx?thumb_id=14&image_path=/images/2014/9/5/BN4C9035.JPG" style="float:right" />

Justine Hauck finally put the Mustangs on the board in the 73rd minute from an assistant from Megan Kilroy.

SMSU finished with 12 shots with eight on goal. FHSU had six shots including five on goal.

Southwest Minnesota State will continue its home stand versus Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
