MARSHALL, Minn. — The No. 5 Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team came back after dropping the first two sets to defeat MSU Moorhead, 3-2 and keep its nine-match winning streak alive. The Mustangs won by scores of 26-28, 25-21, 25-18, 25-13, 15-11.
SMSU struggled the first two sets as it was held to a .096 hitting percentage through the first two frames. The Mustangs got back on track and finished hitting .195 for just the fourth time this season hitting under .200.
Abbey Thissen led the Mustangs with 18 kills while hitting .286.
Taylor Reiss and
Kenzie Beekman both hit double-digit kills in the match as they grounded 16 and 11 kills, respectfully.
Megan Larson grabbed her eighth double-double of the season as she paced the Mustangs with 58 assists while recording 13 digs.
The Mustang defense held the Dragons to a .125 hitting percentage after they hit .233 and .189 in the first two sets, respectfully. SMSU recorded its second highest team blocks of the season with 13 rejections. Reiss led the effort with seven block assists while
Eisha Oden added a pair of block assists and solo blocks. Larson added to her balance play with three blocks.
Whitney Burmeister set a season-high digs as she tallied 28 in the win.
The Southwest Minnesota State will face an unbeaten No. 2 Northern State team tomorrow at 3 p.m., in the PE Gym.
