MARSHALL, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team will open up the 2015-16 season this Friday and Saturday at Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, S.D. The Mustangs will face the Tigers on Friday night at 7 p.m., in a dual match, before competing at the Dakota Wesleyan Open on Saturday at 9 a.m.
Jesse Nelson, begins his ninth season as head coach of the Mustangs and has 33 wrestlers on his roster.
Cole Wilson, who is ranked fifth in the NCAA preseason poll, is leading the list of returners for SMSU after qualifying for the NCAA Division II national tournament for the second consecutive season last year. Wilson finished runner-up at the 2015 NCAA Super Region 3 tournament to qualify and earned second team All-NSIC honors with a 31-7 record.
SMSU's first home dual match of the season is Jan. 23, 2016 hosting U-Mary at the PE Gym.
