SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team was eliminated from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament after suffering a 1-0 loss to Augustana University on Wednesday afternoon at Morstad Field.
SMSU finished the season 8-9-2 overall, while suffering its second loss of the season to No. 21 Augustana. The Mustangs are now 7-19-1 all-time in the NSIC Tournament.
Augustana's Kirsten Smith scored in the 46th minute to break the scoreless tie and give the Vikings a 1-0 lead to start the second half.
The Vikings controlled the first half as they tallied 11 shots in the period with six being on goal, while the Mustangs had just two shots with both being on goal.
Augustana continued its run in the second period, scoring just 56 seconds into the half. The Vikings added seven shots in the last 45 minutes with four being on target.
The Mustangs had just three players record shots in the game as they finished with seven shots with six of them being on goal.
Miranda Cadena led the team with three shots and two being on goal, while
Kendahl Fisher and
Emily Huddleston added two apiece.
Kristy Leopold played the full game in goal as the senior grabbed eight saves in the loss. Leopold saw all 18 shots taken by the Vikings, including five corner kicks. She finished the season with a 6-4-1 record.
