Terry Culhane became the all-time wins leader at Southwest Minnesota State as the No. 2 Mustangs defeated Upper Iowa 3-0 on Saturday afternoon in the PE Gym. SMSU won by scores of, 25-14, 25-16, 25-15.
SMSU improves to 23-3 overall and a 16-2 mark in NSIC play, while UIU drops to 14-13 overall and 8-10 in loop play. The win was the 20th consecutive victory over the Peacocks for the Mustangs and their 14th straight win of the season, including the 11th sweep of the season. The Mustangs conclude their home schedule 8-2.
Taylor Reiss floored 14 kills while hitting .684 to lead all Mustangs, while
Abbey Thissen added 11 kills while finishing at a .241 clip.
Kenzie Beekman and
Eisha Oden contributed seven and six kills, respectfully.
Megan Larson recorded an efficient match, as the sophomore dished out 42 assists while grabbing seven digs.
The Mustang defense again was in the spotlight as they controlled the net and held the Peacocks to a .046 hitting percentage, while putting up six blocks.
Whitney Burmeister led the effort with 14 digs, while Oden put up four rejections.
Southwest Minnesota State will prepare for its final weekend of regular season play as it heads to Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul to close the schedule.
