Box ScoreSIOUX FALLS, S.D. — The Southwest Minnesota State softball team was defeated by No. 1 seed Augustana in the second round of the NSIC / US Bank Tournament on Thursday at Sherman Park.
SMSU moves to 26-28 and will play tomorrow at 10 a.m., against Northern State, who defeated SMSU twice in conference play earlier this season.
Augustana
— ranked No. 9 in the nation
— scored first in the bottom of the first frame after a single scored a run and again in the third after an error by the left fielder.
The Mustangs failed to score despite leaving runners in scoring position in the top of the fourth.
Alex O'Connor (18-17) suffered the loss after pitching the complete game and giving up six hits and two runs (one earned). The sophomore struck out three while walking just one batter.
Katelyn Kalkman,
Madisson Chadwick and
Taylor Koloc recorded the only hits for the Mustangs.
Southwest Minnesota State will play Northern State at 10 tomorrow morning at Sherman Park.
