MARSHALL, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team will resume non-conference action this weekend as it heads to Kearney, Neb., for the Midwest Duals. The Mustangs will face Newman starting at 9 a.m., Saturday, before playing Fort Hays State at 10:30 a.m., San Francisco State at 12 p.m., and Chadron State at 1:30 p.m.
NEWMANSMSU will face Newman for the second time in program history as SMSU defeated NU 37-6 in its first matchup back in the 2013-14 season at the Midwest Duals.
FORT HAYS STATESMSU will face Fort Hays State for the fifth time in program history this weekend. The Mustangs defeated the Tigers for the first time, 22-20 at the Midwest Duals in the 2013-14 season. FHSU holds a 3-1 series record after winning the first three duals during the 2002-2005 seasons.
SAN FRANCISCO STATESMSU will face San Francisco State for the second time in program history at the Duals. The Mustangs defeated the Gators in the lone matchup 27-19 back in the 2005-06 season.
CHADRON STATESMSU will face Chadron State for the third time in program history this weekend. SMSU is 2-0 in the series as the Mustangs won the first dual back in the 1970-71 season and again in the 1978-79 season.
LAST TIME OUTNearly a month ago, The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team suffered a 31-11 loss to No. 3 Augsburg College (DIII) on Dec. 10, 2015, in Si Melby Hall. Augsburg started the dual taking the first three bouts to jump out to a 13-0 lead.
Cortez Arredondo scored the first points for SMSU with a 5-3 decision at 149 pounds.
The Auggies won the following two bouts to push the lead to 22-3 past the half way mark.
Kyle Begin picked up points for the Mustangs at 174 with a 17-2 tech. fall at 5:00 to trail 22-8 with three bouts left.
Augsburg took the next two bouts to seal the win, but
Cole Wilson revenged his loss from earlier in this season at the Auggie-Adidas open against Longendyke. Wilson picked up a 5-3 decision in the final bout to snap a 44-match winning streak by Longendyke, who is also the defending DIII heavyweight national champion.
MIDWEST DUALSThe Mustangs will compete in the Midwest Duals for the third-consecutive season and hold a 5-3 record in the Duals. SMSU's three losses are from Nebraska-Kearney(2014), Colorado School of Mines(2015) and Colorado Mesa(2015).

Cole Wilson is the lone Mustang ranked in the poll at 285 pounds. The senior is ranked fourth in this weeks' poll and is carrying a 12-3 record going into the Saturday duals.
