MARSHALL, Minn. — The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team started its home schedule on a high-note with a 24-15 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory over the University of Mary on Saturday afternoon in the PE Gym.
 
U-Mary started the dual taking the first two bouts by a decision and a pin to lead 9-0.
 
Cortez Arredondo scored points for the Mustangs at 141 pounds with an 8-7 decision. Arredondo led 6-5 going into the final period, but found himself trailing by one late. A quick escape with under 10-seconds left and riding time gave Arredondo the win.
 
U-Mary grabbed a 6-1 decision at 149 pounds to grab a 12-3 lead after four bouts.
 
Patrick Kelley would start the run for SMSU at 157 pounds with a 7-2 decision and Kegen Fingalsen would lock the match up at 12-all after a pin at 4:56.
 
Kyle Begin would give the Mustangs the lead at 174 pounds with a 16-0 tech. fall at 4:36. Brody Goens added to the SMSU lead with an 11-2 major decision at 184 pounds to give the Mustangs a 21-12 lead.
 
The Marauders recorded their final points of the dual at 197 pounds with an 8-4 decision.
 
Cole Wilson pushed his winning streak to eight with a 1-0 decision at 285 pounds to close the match and to give SMSU a 24-15 victory.
 
Southwest Minnesota State will host Northern State on Thursday at 7 p.m.
