MARSHALL, Minn.— The fourth ranked Southwest Minnesota State University women's volleyball team hit .402 and had 9.0 total team blocks to complete a sweep of U-Mary (25-17, 25-17, 25-13) on Senior Night at the PE Gym.
SMSU (25-4, 17-2 NSIC) held U-Mary to .126 hitting and added four service aces as a team. The Mustangs never trailed from start to finish in the 3-0 sweep and will now capture at least a share of first place in the NSIC with a win in their final home match tomorrow afternoon.
Taylor Reiss had a double double and led SMSU with 15 kills while hitting .355 and also added 11 digs and had one service ace.
Kaylee Burmeister added 10 kills and eight digs. After being honored for Senior Night prior to the match, SMSU's three seniors,
Sarah Parker,
Eisha Oden, and
Jessica Thelemann each had solid contributions in the win. Parker had 13 kills and five total blocks, Thelemann added nine digs, and Oden had six kills and added two blocks.
The Mustangs controlled the entire match, with just one tie in the match at 3-3 in the first set and zero lead changes in the match that lasted just one hour and eleven minutes. SMSU finishes the season 2-0 over U-Mary and have still never lost to the Marauders as they now lead the all-time series 17-0.
SMSU looks to push its home winning streak to eight straight matches tomorrow afternoon as it hosts Parent's Day in the last home match of the season versus Minot State at 4 p.m.
