ST. CLOUD, Minn. — The Southwest Minnesota State softball team closed its weekend games in St. Cloud with a split. Mustangs picked up a 9-7 win against Central Missouri, before suffering a 5-0 loss to Missouri Western State to close the weekend.
Southwest Minnesota State (2-3) will compete in the Spring Games March 5-11 in Clermont, Flordia.

UCM responded in the second inning with a triple down the left-field line to score a run and tied the game up at 2-2 with a single that scored a run.
SMSU gained the advantage in the third inning following a Decker single to score
Mackenzie Clouse and scored Carroll on a throwing error. The Mustangs ended the inning with a Carroll single to score Decker and give them a 5-2 lead.
Central
Missouri came back to tie it 5-5 in the third following a pair of singles and a sac fly.
SMSU scored a run in the fourth from a Decker grounder, before UCM tied it in the fourth and took the lead in the fifth inning following a sac fly and a single gave it a 7-6 advantage.
The Mustangs retook the lead in the sixth after Carroll scored
Victoria Brooks and Chavez. SMSU added an insurance run in the inning after Flack doubled up the middle to score Carroll
MWSUBox Score Missouri Western State started the scoring in the second inning after a home run and added run in the third with a single, grounder and triple gave it a 5-0 lead. SMSU tried to get a run across, but came up short.
