ST. PAUL — Southwest Minnesota State used three home runs to take game one 11-0 in dominating fashion, but could not secure the sweep as it dropped game two, 5-2 against Concordia-St. Paul Tuesday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference softball.

Alex O'Connor picked up her fourth win of the season and her second shutout after hurling a 3-hit shutout in game one. The junior struck out seven and walked one batter.

SMSU tallied 11 hits as it dominated the whole game. The Mustangs started the scoring in the first inning, as they scored two runs on three hits to lead early. SMSU added to its lead in the third scoring a pair of runs before
Taylor Koloc jacked a 3-run homer to push the lead to 7-0. Koloc's home run was her fifth of the season and the third straight game with one.

The Mustangs did not stop there, as
Mackenzie Clouse joined the home run club in the fourth with a solo shot—her third of the season—before Jazmayne Neely also went the distance with a 2-run home run—her second of the season—to push SMSU's lead to 10-0.
Karmann Carroll added an insurance run in the fourth with an RBI single to help secure the 11-0 win in five innings.

In game two,
Athena Golling started in the circle and hurled 2 1/3 innings before O'Connor came in to relief her. O'Connor pitched the remaining 3 2/3 innings and picked up the loss. The two combined for seven hits, five runs (four earned) and four strike outs.

SMSU started the scoring again in the first inning, grabbing an early 1-0 lead after an RBI single by Chavez scored
Sam Flack.

Concordia-St. Paul responded in the third frame with a single up the middle to score a pair of runs and to take a 2-1 lead. The Golden Bears added a run in the fifth after a 3-run home run made the score 5-2.

The Mustangs tried to cut the deficit in the final frame following a solo home run by Carroll, but could not get closer as they fell 5-2 to record the split.

Southwest Minnesota State will open its home schedule this weekend, as it welcomes Minot State for a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m., from Mustang Field.
