MARSHALL, Minn. – To generate additional revenue for student-athlete scholarships, the Southwest Minnesota State University Athletics Department has announced parking prices for parking lots on campus for SMSU football games.
The "Parking for Scholarships" program will be in effect for the 2016 SMSU football season and will cost $5 per car and $10 for R/V's.
"While we are sensitive to the impact these changes will have on our fans, we believe this is an important step in our efforts to continue to field and grow competitive programs at the conference, regional and national levels," said
Chris Hmielewski, SMSU Director of Athletics. "We did a lot of research in the spring on ticketing and parking practices within the NSIC and central region and found the price of having a thriving athletics department has grown. We hope that Mustang fans support a move that will help provide greater scholarships and opportunities for SMSU student-athlete and team success."
SMSU students can park FREE of charge with a valid SMSU ID. Please have your SMSU IDs out prior to arriving at the Schwan Regional Event Center to help the flow of traffic into the parking lots.
Fans also have options to purchase various packages of reserved parking passes for the fall and winter season. A "football" parking pass costs $30 and includes access to the R/A and Green lots for all SMSU football games.
A "fall season" reserved parking pass is $100, and includes access to the BA/PE lot, along with the R/A and Green lot for SMSU football, soccer and volleyball home games.
Fans can also choose the "all season" reserved pass for $150, which includes access to all three lots for all SMSU Athletic events during the 2016-17 academic year.
To access the BA/PE parking lot, fans must enter from the north end of campus on Mustang Trail. To access either the R/A or Green lots, fans must come from the south end of campus, using Mustang Trail.
Fans will still have access to all other lots on campus free of charge.
