MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team opened the 2016 season on Thursday with a 3-0 loss to Fort Hays State (Kan.) at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
FHSU (1-0) opened the game's scoring in the fourth minute on a goal by Dani Harris. The lead moved to 2-0 in the 17
th minute as Eden Stoddard scored on a header off a corner kick.
The Tigers added to the lead in the 57
th minute on a penalty kick to push the lead to 3-0.
FHSU held a 21-6 shots advantage, including 15 on goal. SMSU closed the game with two shots on goal.
Jessica Craigmile made 12 saves for SMSU.
Allison Shock and
Alexandra Miskowiec each had a shot on goal for the Mustangs.
SMSU (0-1) continues play on Saturday hosting Washburn (Kan.) at 2 p.m.
