MARSHALL, Minn.—The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team lost a tight match at home Friday afternoon to Concordia-St. Paul, 2-1.
The loss drops SMSU to 1-3 at home on the season and 3-4 (2-2 NSIC) overall. Concordia-St. Paul earns its first win of the season and is now 1-3-2 overall with a conference record of 1-0-2.
The Mustangs opened the scoring early on with their first shot of the match in just the 13
th minute off of a nice string of passes from the SMSU attack.

Amanda Hartmann behind the CSP defense who then put a ball across the box to
Alexandra Miskowiec. Miskowiec redirected the ball past Concordia-St. Paul's keeper, Jordyn Clark, for the first goal of the match. The third goal of the year for Miskowiec, which ties her for the team lead, gave SMSU a 1-0 advantage that it would carry into halftime.
CSP came out strong in the second and tested freshman goalkeeper,
Jessica Craigmile, throughout. Chelsie Lindsay equalized for the Golden Bears in the 64
th minute to even the match at one goal apiece. Lindsay brought the ball under control in the middle of the penalty area, turned and fired a shot into the bottom right corner of the net.
SMSU committed a number of fouls in the second half and gave up a free kick within shooting range in the 71
st minute. Jade Weller connected directly off of the free kick, placing the ball into the upper right corner of the net to give CSP the 2-1 advantage.
The Mustangs had a number of close opportunities that never found the net, finishing with three shots on goal in the second half. CSP was able to close out the match to preserve its first win of the year.
SMSU will now face Minnesota State on the road in Mankato, Minn., on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. central time.
