BURNSVILLE, Minn.- Southwest Minnesota State volleyball players,
Taylor Reiss and
Megan Larson, were each named Player of the Week by the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) which was announced on Monday after their respective performances this past weekend against St. Cloud State and No. 6 Minnesota Duluth.
Taylor Reiss, a graduate of Minneota High School and a native of Taunton, Minn., was named Offensive Player of the Week after averaging 4.83 kills per set with 29 total kills over the weekend. Reiss moved into top-10 in school history in career kills with her 12-kill performance against St. Cloud State on Friday night.
A junior outside hitter, Reiss also added eight block assists and finished with a .448 attack percentage in the Mustangs' two sweeps over the weekend. She posted a .500 attack percentage in SMSU's sweep of No. 6 Minnesota Duluth on Saturday while racking up 17 total kills on 32 attacks with one error.
Megan Larson, another Minneota High School alumn and a native of Minneota, Minn., was named Setter of the Week after averaging 13.83 assists per set while helping the Mustangs to a conference best, .351 hitting percentage as a team over the weekend. SMSU posted a .386 hitting percentage in the win over UMD on Saturday. Larson, the Mustangs' all-time leader in career assists also added 11 digs and three blocks over the weekend and currently ranks third in the country with 12.6 assists per set.
Larson and Reiss both earned Player of the Week honors back on Sept. 11, after their respective performances in the Colorado Premier. Reiss and Larson were also both two-time recipients of their respective awards in 2016.
The Mustangs (15-0, 7-0 NSIC) will look to set the mark for the second longest win streak in school history on Friday night when they travel to play at MSU Moorhead beginning at 6 p.m. SMSU will then face Northern State on the road on Saturday beginning at 2 p.m.
