Mustangs to play at WSC followed by Senior Day against Augustana

MARSHALL, Minn.- Southwest Minnesota State will wrap up its 2017 season this weekend as they travel to Wayne State for its final road NSIC match of the year on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.,  before returning to Marshall for its season finale against Augustana on Sunday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m.

SMSU will honor its five senior players at Senior Day in the Mustangs final home match of the year on Sunday against Augustana.

- SMSU will honor its five senior players this weekend as it prepares for the final two matches of the 2017 season

- Amanda Hartmann extended a streak of four straight games with a goal scored and helped snap the Mustangs' 13-match winless streak in a 1-0 win over Minnesota Crookston

Wayne State: Match Preview

    Series History

- SMSU leads the all-time series 13-9-3

- The Mustangs have not lost to Wayne State since 2012 when the Wildcats won 2-0 in Wayne, Neb.

- The Mustangs have outscored WSC 3-0 in the last three matchups

- SMSU won eight of the first nine all-time matches between the two schools from 1997 to 2015

- SMSU defeated Wayne State 4-1 in last year's season finale which eliminated the Wildcats from qualification for the NSIC Tournament

- Alli Miskowiec, Emily Huddleston, and Emily Hofmann each scored goals in the Mustangs 4-1 win in Marshall last season

- Overall Record: 3-8-5

- Conf. Record: 2-7-4

- Current Streak: Lost 2

- Alexis Strothers scored goals in both games last weekend

- Christina Stasi scored team-high fourth goal of season vs. UMD last Sunday

- Carleigh Wilson and Sophie Ketchmark also scored goals vs. UMD last Sunday

- The Wildcats opened the season with just one loss in its first four matches including a 5-0 win over Black Hills State but have captured  just two wins in conference play

- WSC has not won a match since Sept. 29 at MSU Moorhead

- The Wildcats will travel to play at Sioux Falls on Sunday in their final match of the 2017 season


Augustana: Match Preview

    Series History

- Augustana leads the all-time series, 4-14-1

- The last win for SMSU over Augie was a 2-1 over the Vikings back in 2014 in Marshall

- Augie has outscored SMSU 7-1 in the past three matchups

- SMSU won three of the first four all-time matches from 2000-03

- Augustana won 11 straight matches from 2004-2013

- SMSU took an early lead off of a penalty kick in the lone matchup between the two schools in 2016 but Augustana eventually pulled away and held a 4-1 halftime lead before eventually winning, 5-1

- Overall Record: 10-2-4

- Conf. Record: 9-1-3

- Current Streak: Tied 1

- Augustana will host Sioux Falls on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m., before traveling to play SMSU on Sunday

- The Vikings were ranked fourth in last week's NCAA Central Division rankings

- The Vikings went 0-1-2 through their first three matches before reeling off eight straight victories in September and early October

- The Vikings picked up their 10th and 11th shutouts of the season against Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State

- AU tied the school record for shutouts in a season with 11 set in 2015

- Augustana hasn't lost in their last 17 overtime games (8-0-9)

- The Vikings secured their fifth straight 10-win season and their seventh in their 18-year history after thier win last week

- Taylor Machacek recorded her NSIC best 11th shutout on the season and tied her own school record for single season shutouts


Mustang Seniors

- SMSU seniors this year includes: Emily Huddleston, Amanda Hartmann, Fabiana Peiro, McKenna Peters and Megan Vogl

- Midfielder, Fabiana Peiro, scored the Mustangs first goal of the season in the 14th minute against Northern State

- Forward, Emily Huddleston, has one goal and two assists on the season

- Amanda Hartmann scored goals in four straight matches and leads the team with four goals and 16 shots on goal


Hartmann Stops SMSU Streaks

- Amanda Hartmann's late goal against Winona State on Oct. 8 snapped a streak of four consecutive games for SMSU without a goal scored and ended a streak of 523 minutes without a goal

- Amanda Hartmann scored early at St. Cloud State to end a streak of 706 minutes without holding a lead for SMSU

- Hartmann's goal yesterday against Minnesota Crookston, her fourth goal in four games, helped put a stop to the Mustangs 13-match winless streak

- Hartmann leads SMSU with 33 total shots, 16 shots on goal, four goals scored and is tied for the lead with two assists


Quality Over Quantity

- SMSU has struggled to win possession battles at time this season, but has created its fair share of quality scoring chances

- The Mustangs have hit the target on 62-of-126 shots overall for a shots on goal percentage of .492

- SMSU has scored in five straight matches for the first time this year and will look to make it six straight against WSC which has a minus-11 scoring differential going into the final weekend


Between the Posts

- SMSU has split time in net between sophomore goalkeeper, Jessica Craigmile (0-5-0), and true freshman, Jenna Meyer (1-9-0)

- Meyer had five saves against Minnesota Crookston and secured her first career win and first career shutout in the Mustangs' 1-0 victory last Saturday

- Rachel Grisham (3-8-5) has posted two shutouts with a 1.94 goals against average and a .706 save percentage for Wayne State

- Taylor Machacek (10-2-4) is third in the NSIC with a .512 goals against average for Augustana

- Machacek is also third in the conference with a .879 save percentage
