BURNSVILLE, Minn.- Fourth-ranked Southwest Minnesota State will host the first round of the NSIC Tournament as the No. 2 seed which was announced by conference on Saturday.
The Mustangs (25-3, 17-3 NSIC) will host the seventh seeded Upper Iowa Peacocks (21-8, 12-8) in the quarterfinal round of the annual conference tournament on Wednesday beginning at 6 p.m., in the PE Gym.
SMSU defeated Upper Iowa, 3-1 (19-25, 25-18, 25-15, 25-19) on the road back on Oct. 21., in the only match between the two this season.
SMSU concluded the regular season alone in second place in the conference standings after a 2-0 weekend with wins over Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State.
The winner of the 2017 NSIC Volleyball Tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Central Regional Tournament. The full championship selections will be announced on Monday, Nov. 20 via a webcast selection show on www.NCAA.com at 6:30 p.m.
The regional tournament will be played November 30-December 2 at a regional campus. The 2017 NCAA DII Volleyball Championships will be hosted by the University of West Florida at the UWF Field House in Pensacola, Florida on December 7-9.
