ABERDEEN, S.D.- Southwest Minnesota State got off to a 2-0 start to the 2017 season with wins over Northern State and Valley City State in day one of the Presentation College Dome Tournament. SMSU defeated Northern State, 6-2 and followed up with a 2-1 walk off win over Valley City State this Saturday night.

SMSU vs. Northern State- Southwest Minnesota State scored four runs in the bottom of the second and
Alex O'Connor pitched a complete game with nine strikeouts as SMSU started the 2017 season with a 6-2 win over Northern State on Saturday afternoon in its first game of the Presentation College Dome Tournament.
O'Connor gave up just seven hits and two earned runs on the afternoon.
Karmann Carroll went 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. Abbie Decker went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
After leading off the bottom of the second with a walk,
Sam Flack scored to put the Mustangs on the board first when Northern State walked
Alex Reak with the bases loaded. Decker then doubled down the line to score two more which was followed by a sac fly from
Victoria Brooks to put the Mustangs up 4-0 after just two innings.
Northern State came back with two runs in the top of the third but SMSU answered right back with two more runs of its own. O'Connor finished out her complete game with no more runs allowed as SMSU got off to a 1-0 start to its season.

SMSU vs. Valley City State- Southwest Minnesota State surrendered a game tying run in the top of the seventh but SMSU came out on top in extra innings after
Karmann Carroll hit a walk off single in the bottom of the ninth to give SMSU a 2-1 win over Valley City State on Saturday night in the Presentation College Dome Tournament.
Athena Golling started in the circle for the Mustangs and pitched six scoreless innings as SMSU clinged to a 1-0 lead for most of the game.
Karmann Carroll earned her first RBI of the game in the bottom of the third on a single to left field, driving in
Kali Tomlinson.
After giving up a game tying run in the top of the seventh and three scoreless half innings in extras,
Sam Flack doubled down the left field line and reached third after
Kali Tomlinson was thrown out at the plate. Carroll recorded her second RBI of the game in walk-off fashion when she singled to center to drive home Flack for the game winning run.
Southwest Minnesota State will face Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) tomorrow morning at 10 a.m., followed by a game against Jamestown to wrap up the tournament at 12 p.m.
