MARSHALL, Minn.- Southwest Minnesota State (7-13, 3-5 NSIC) could never recover after dropping the first three bouts of the day as Minnesota State Moorhead (5-9, 2-5 NSIC) defeated SMSU, 23-13 on Saturday afternoon in the PE Gym.
Taylor Curtis lost a tight bout to begin the day as Jared Goldsmith put MSU Moorhead on the board first with a sudden victory.
Cortez Arredondo won by sudden victory at 149 to give SMSU its first win of the day but Isaac Novacek followed up with a major decision at 157 to make the Dragons' lead 17-3.
Jake Slocum and
Cole Hennen both won decisions to help the Mustangs slowly climb back into the match.
Jackson Ryan won by a 13-2 major decision at 197 to give SMSU a chance going into the 285 bout, but Nader Abdullatif won by fall in 58 seconds to give MSU Moorhead its second conference win of the season.
SMSU will conclude its regular season schedule on the road against Concordia College on Thursday at 7 p.m.
