LEESBURG, Fla.- Southwest Minnesota State was unable to stop its losing skid on Thursday as it lost, 4-0 to Notre Dame College (Ohio) in the first game and dropped its second game, 2-0 to No. 16 Southern Indiana from Sleepy Hollow Softball Complex.

Game 1-Â SMSU struck first with its first homer of the week but fell to Notre Dame College (Ohio), 4-1 in the first of two games for the Mustangs on Thursday afternoon.
Abbie Decker got the Mustangs rolling early with her first home run of the year to lead off the bottom of the first inning, giving SMSU a 1-0 lead.
Alex O'Connor pitched four scoreless innings and gave up just one run in the fifth before giving up the decision after being pulled with no outs in the top of the sixth.
Megan Cull suffered her first loss of the season after giving up three hits and one earned run during the sixth as well before
Athena Golling came in on relief duty.
Notre Dame College's three runs in the top of the sixth inning were enough to hold off the Mustangs who had back-to-back 1-2-3 innings in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings to end the game.
Game 2 Box Score
Game 2- SMSU faced its first ranked opponent of the season and were unable to put a stop to what is now a six game losing skid after falling to No. 16 Southern Indiana, 2-0.
Southwest Minnesota State registered four hits but were unable to crack the scoring column in the loss. SMSU left six runners on base during the game and were unable to capitalize on two Southern Indiana errors.
Southern Indiana's starting pitcher, Courtney Atkisson, threw a complete game shutout for her fifth win of the season in a game that lasted just 1:35.
Shelby Crank pitched her first complete game of the year and gave up just five hits and only two earned runs to lower her season earned run average (2.80).Â
Abbie Decker went 2-for-3 in the loss and leads SMSUÂ in batting average on the season (.364).Â
Southern Indiana got on the board first, scoring on a wild pitch with two outs in the top of the second inning. The Eagels then doubled their lead on a solo homer in the third that would prove to be the only hit of the inning.
SMSU stranded two in the bottom of the third and again left two runners on base in the seventh to end the game.
Southwest Minnesota State will play its final two games of its ten-game Florida trip tomorrow as it faces Siena Heights University (Mich.) at 10:30 a.m., eastern followed by its final game of the trip against Nyack College at 1 p.m., eastern.
