MARSHALL, Minn.- Southwest Minnesota State led game one after five innings before falling to Augustana, 9-7 and later trailed the Vikings by just one run going into the seventh inning of game two before Augustana pulled away to earn a 13-5 victory to complete the doubleheader sweep on Wednesday afternoon.

SMSU scored five runs in the fifth to take its first lead of the game before Augustana used a three-run homer in the sixth to help secure a 9-7 win in game one of a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at a rainy Mustang Field.
Victoria Brooks went 2 for 4 with two runs scored from her usual lead-off spot in the Mustangs' lineup while
Mackenzie Clouse was 2 for 3 with two hits including her third home run of the year.Â
Augie scored the game's first run on a passed ball in the top of the second and pushed its lead to 3-0 with three hits and one SMSUÂ throwing error in the second.
Tori Brooks led off the bottom of the third with a double that turned into three bases following a throwing error on the play from Augustana. Brooks would later score on a throw after
Abbie Decker stole second.Â
Mackenzie Clouse led off the fourth with another double for SMSUÂ which the Mustangs converted into one more run following back-to-back grounders.
Augustana had four hits in the fifth and took advantage of one infield error from SMSU to push across three more runs in the top of the fifth.Â
Leading off from the top of the lineup, SMSU's bats came alive in the bottom of the fifth as Brooks led off the inning with a single and later came around off of an
Emma Grote single.
Sam Flack hit a two RBI single later in the inning to get the Mustangs and
Mackenzie Clouse capped off the inning with a two-run homer to left center that gave SMSU a 7-6 lead.
Augustana responded when Shannon Peterson sent one out of the ballpark with runners on second and third. The three-run homer would prove to be the game winner as SMSU suffered its first loss of the year when leading after five innings (SMSU was 10-0 entering the day).
The loss was also the first for SMSU when scoring six or more runs after beginning the year 11-0 when scoring six plus runs.

SMSU trailed by just one run heading into the seventh inning when Augustana reeled off seven runs off of seven hits to all but put the game away as the Mustangs' went three up and three down in the bottom half of the inning.
Kaylee Hentges went 2 for 3 with two RBI while
Mackenzie Clouse followed up a big game one performance by going 1 for 4 with one RBI as well.Â
Olivia Wolters earned the win for Augustana after pitching five innings while giving up five earned runs on eight hits.
Athena Golling pitched six 1/3 innings surrendering 14 hits and nine runs on the afternoon.
After trading runs in the first inning, Augustana pushed across four runs in the second off of five hits while still stranding three runners in the end. The Mustangs responded with one run in the second off of an RBI single from Hentges but left two runners on base after
Karmann Carroll was thrown out at home and a grounder that ended the inning.
Two extra base hits in the fifth helped the Mustangs on their way to three total runs on four hits in the fifth inning to bring SMSU back within one run. After a scoreless sixth inning, Augustana scored seven in the top of the seventh with the help of a three run blast from Shannon Petersen.
The Mustangs will be back in action this weekend as they travel to North Dakota to play at U-Mary and Minot this Saturday and Sunday respectively.Â
