PENSACOLA, Fla.- The second ranked Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team finished off a perfect 4-0 weekend with wins over Southern Indiana and West Florida on Saturday from the UWF Fieldhouse.

No. 2 SMSUÂ vs. Southern Indiana
No. 2Â SMSU held Southern Indiana to just .040 hitting and had 10 blocks as a team as the Mustangs swept their first match of the day winning, 25-23, 25-16, 25-16.
Brooke Borchardt led the Mustangs with 10 kills and had a .529 hitting percentage while
Sarina Smith had five kills on just eight total attacks. Setter
Megan Larson had 25 assists while adding five kills and three digs as well.
Freshamn
Zoe Lier saw her first significant action this season and added four kills on just seven attacks.
SMSU won a third straight opening set in a tight first game that saw 11 ties and two lead changes. SMSUÂ went up by one at 23-22 off of a kill by
Taylor Reiss before a ball handling error and a bad set from the Screaming Eagles gave SMSU the win in set one despite hitting just .143 as a team.
The Mustangs offenes rebounded in the second as SMSU led the entire second game with 15 kills as a team and a .323 hitting percentage in set two.
SMSU used a 10-0 run to jump out to a 16-6 lead in the third set and never looked back closing out the match with a .314 hitting percentage as a team. The Mustangs also went 11 of 16 (68 percent) on sideouts in the third and final set as the Screaming Eagles were never able to gain any momentum.

Southwest Minnesota State finished off its perfect weekend in Florida with a 3-1 victory of West Florida, winning 25-23, 26-24, 20-25, 25-22.
Taylor Reiss and
Kaylee Burmeister each had 16 kills in the win while
Brooke Borchardt added another 13 kills with a .391 hitting percentage.
Playing on the back row,
Erin Corrigan contributed 21 total digs for the Mustangs while Burmeister and Reiss had 20 and 18 total digs respectively.
Megan Larson had 45 assists in the win and also added another five kills and 12 digs.
SMSUÂ hit just .215 but held West Florida to a .176 attack percentage with 10 total blocks as a team.
The Mustangs had 18 kills as a team a first set that saw 10 ties and three lead changes as SMSU won its fourth straight opening set by a score of 25-23 going 17 of 23 on sideouts to begin the match.
The second set was tight throughout as well but SMSUÂ edged out a 2-0 lead after a UWF hitting error and
Taylor Reiss kill closed out the game.
After dropping the third set 25-20, SMSUÂ came back with another 14 kills as a team and held West Florida to a .156 hitting percentage in the fourth set.
Southwest Minnesota State finishes off a 4-0 weekend after also going 4-0 in it's last weekend tournament in Pensacola, Fla., to start the season back in 2015.
The Mustangs will return to action next weekend in the annual Colorado Premier Challenge next weekend in Denver Colo., where they will face Tampa and Ferris State in their first two matches.
