TOPEKA, Kan.- Southwest Minnesota State remains in search of its first goal of the season after dropping its second game of the weekend at Washburn, 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
For the second consecutive game, SMSU conceded an early goal and played from behind for a majority of the match.
Washburn finished the match with a 17-6 advantage in total shots and a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Ellie Karloff opened the scoring with a goal in the 14th minute to put Washburn ahead 1-0 and the Ichabods allowed just two first half shots from SMSU to take the lead into the halftime break.
SMSU doubled its shot total in the second half but managed just four shots on goal for the game as the Mustangs were shutout for a second straight match.
Karloff doubled the lead for Washburn late in the 87th minute to help put the decision away for Washburn.
The Mustangs will return to action on Friday for their conference and home opener against Sioux Falls from the Schwan Regional Event Center beginning at 4 p.m.
