MARSHALL, Minn.- Taylor Curtis got the night started off with a win by a 5-3 decision for Southwest Minnesota State, but SMSU was only able to put together two more decisions as Augustana pulled away to a 27-9 win on Thursday night.
SMSU (4-4, 0-2 NSIC) returns to NSIC competition after going 3-1 in the Augustana Duals and 1-1 in the Maverick Duals against nonconference opponents.
Following Curtis's 5-3 decision to lead off the night, SMSU dropped the next three bouts to fall behind 11-3.
Cortez Arredondo won a 5-3 decision at 157 for SMSU but Augustana then won another four straight bouts to go ahead 27-6.
Andrew Petersen won 6-4 decision at 285 as Augustana's win moves the Vikings (RV) to 7-2 overall and 2-0 on their conference schedule.
SMSU will turn around to compete in less than 24 hours as they facce Northern State on Friday night at 7 p.m., in the first home dual of the year for the Mustangs in the PE Gym.
