SMSU hosts UMary and Minot State in two-match homestand

MARSHALL, Minn. - Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team hosts UMary on Friday at 4 p.m. and Minot State on Sunday at 12 p.m. for senior recognition at the Schwan Regional Event Center.

SMSU enters the homestand 3-8 overall, 3-6 in the conference, and looking to break a three-game losing streak. The Mustangs have earned nine points entering into the contest against UMary (3-6-2 overall, 2-5-2 NSIC) who has earned eight points and Minot State (6-4-2 overall, 4-4-1 NSIC) who has earned 13. 

SMSU Notes
The Mustangs fell to RV Minnesota State (9-1-1 overall, 7-0-1 NSIC) on Friday 9-1. Alli Miskowiec scored SMSU's only goal in the 80th minute, assisted by Emily Hofmann. The goal was Miskowiec's fifth this season. The Mustangs were shutout by Concordia-St. Paul 3-0 on Sunday to extend their losing streak to three. Abbey Hoisington recorded two shots, neither of them on goal in the Mustang loss.  

Miskowiec tied Hoisington as the Mustangs lead scorer with five goals. Miskowiec has earned 13 points off three assists, five goals, and has accounted for 29 shots, 17 on goal. Hoisington trails with 11 points, 29 shots with 19 of them goal. 

Jenna Meyer played all 90 minutes and recorded five saves as goalkeeper against MSU. Meyer dropped her record to 1-3 with 16 saves this season.

Jessica Craigmile played all 90 minutes as goalkeeper with nine saves against CSP. Craigmile has recorded 56 saves and maintains a 2-5 record.  

UMary Notes
University of Mary is 3-6-2 overall and 2-5-2 in the conference with eight points earned. UMary dropped its last match 3-1 to Bemidji State on Oct. 7. The Marauders are led by Caylin Cathey with six goals scored, 14 points, 15 shots, with nine shots on goal. Madisyn Waltman has recorded 40 saves as goalkeeper with a 2-6-2 record, three shutouts, and 101 shots faced. 

UMary Series History 
University of Mary leads the series 12-4, which began on Sept. 13, 1997. UMary opened the series with a nine-game winning streak. SMSU earned a 2-1 victory for its first win against UMary on Sept. 24, 2011 in Marshall, Minn. Mustangs won two consecutive games in 2013-2014, both 2-0 shutouts. The Mustangs last win occurred on Oct 2, 2016 in a 5-1 Mustang victory. UMary won 3-0 in the last match on Sept. 30, 2017.

Minot State Notes
Minot State is 6-4-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the NSIC. The Beavers snapped a two-game losing streak with a 4-0 victory over Minnesota Crookston on Oct. 7. Minot State's Sofia Lewis scored a hat-trick in the victory over Minnesota Crookston. Lewis leads the Beavers with nine goals, 23 points, 33 shots with 19 of them on goal.  Erin Rafferty has a 6-4-2 record as goalkeeper with 33 shots off 104 shots faced. 

Minot State Series History
Minot State leads the series 6-2, which began with a 2-1 Mustangs victory in overtime on Sept. 15, 2010. The Mustangs home record is tied 2-2 as both Mustang victories occurred at home. Minot State has won the last four consecutive contests against SMSU. Mustangs dropped the last match 3-0 on Oct. 1, 2017 at Minot, N.D. 

Following this weekend, Southwest Minnesota State travels to Minnesota Duluth on Friday, Oct. 19 for a 12 p.m. contest and St. Cloud State on Sunday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m.
