MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team (3-12, 3-10 NSIC) hosts its final home game of the regular season on Friday against Winona State (6-7-1, 6-6-1 NSIC) at 4 p.m. at the Schwan Regional Event Center. SMSU travels to Upper Iowa (3-11-2, 2-9-2 NSIC) on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match to complete the regular season.
SMSU Notes
SMSU went 0-2 this weekend with a 2-1 loss to Minnesota Duluth and a 2-0 shutout by St. Cloud State on Sunday.
Alli Miskowiec passed
Abbey Hoisington as the Mustangs' lead scorer with six goals, after her goal against Minnesota Duluth, assisted by
Allie Cook. Miskowiec leads with six goals, three assists, 15 points with 36 shots, 19 of them on goal. Hoisington follows with five goals with 11 points, 32 shots, with 21 of them on goal.
Jenna Meyer and
Jessica Craigmile split time between the posts. Craigmile leads with 63 saves with a 2-6 record. Meyer has 40 saves with a 1-6 record.
Winona State Notes
The Warriors dropped the last two matches to Minot State 2-0 and UMary 2-1. Abby Bohanski and Yanel Ortiz were NSIC Offensive and Goalkeeper of the week announced on Oct. 15. The Warriors are led in a thrice-tie between Melissa Greco, Abby Bohanski, and Georgette Topalis with three goals recorded this season. Bohanski leads with 34 shots, 21 of them on goal. Alyssa Reynolds leads with two assists with four points. Yanel Ortiz has played five games with 18 saves and a 3-2 recorded and three shutouts. Jourdan Valkner with a 2-5-1 recorded, 49 saves, and two shutouts.
WSU Series History
WSU is undefeated going 30-0-3 in a series which began on Sept. 8, 1996. The Mustangs dropped the last match 3-1 on Oct. 8, 2017 at Winona State.
Upper Iowa Notes
Katie Samuels leads the Peacocks with four goals this season with eight points, 24 shots, 10 of them on goal. Natalie Rudrud has played in 15 games with 110 saves, a 3-9-2 record. Rudrud earned NSIC Goalkeeper of the week early announced on Sept. 4.
UIU Notes
Upper Iowa leads the series 9-3-2 dating back to Oct. 1, 2006. The Mustangs dropped the last two matches, the latest on Oct. 6, 2017 in Marshall with a 1-0 final score.
Southwest Minnesota State closes the regular season this weekend with Winona State at home on Friday and at Upper Iowa on Sunday.
