SCSU downs SMSU on Saturday afternoon

MARSHALL, Minn. –
St. Cloud State snapped a 19-match losing to Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday afternoon earning a 25-19, 25-20, 19-25, 25-22 over the 10th ranked Mustangs in the PE Gym.
 
SCSU improves to 11-6 overall, 7-4 NSIC, while SMSU drops to 13-6 overall, 8-3 NSIC. Today's win was the first for the Huskies since the 2004 season.
 
Taylor Reiss recorded a team-high 20 kills for SMSU, while hitting .321. Meg Schmidt added 16 kills, while Angela Young chipped in with 10 kills to pace the Mustang attack. Kaylee Burmeister finished with a team-high 22 digs, while Reiss recorded 17 digs. Emma Thomssen had 29 assists, while Payton Hjerleid dished out 22 assists.
 
SMSU closed the match hitting .289, while SCSU hit .269.
 
Linsey Rachel led the match with 21 kills to pace the Huskies.
 
Southwest Minnesota State returns to the court on Tuesday night with a conference match at the University of Sioux Falls starting at 6 p.m.
