ABERDEEN, S.D. –
The Southwest Minnesota State softball team extended its winning streak to a season-long four straight games earning a doubleheader sweep over MSU Moorhead on Friday night at the Presentation College Dome. SMSU won game one, 8-1, and completed the sweep with a 9-2 victory in game two.

The games were moved to Aberdeen due to poor weather and field conditions in Moorhead. SMSU will continue play indoors on Saturday with a doubleheader versus Northern State (15-13, 5-3 NSIC) starting 2 p.m.

Shelby Crank was outstanding in the circle for SMSU (10-15, 5-5 NSIC) as she recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts in moving to 5-4 on the season. She allowed just six hits and did not walk a batter in recording her sixth complete game of the season.

Every SMSU starter had at least one hit in the opener as the Mustangs finished with 13 hits. Mackenzie Clouse continued her torrid stretch of hitting as she was 3 for 4, while Bailey Johnson was 2 for 4 with three RBI, including a home run. Abbie Decker also belted a home run, connecting on three-run homer in the sixth, to blow open a tight game.

Clouse has eight hits, including four doubles and six RBIs during SMSU's current win-streak. She now leads the team with seven multi-games this season.

Johnson started the scoring for SMSU in the top of the first with an RBI single to score Madysson Schliinz, before Sara DeSmet made the score 2-0 in the second with a bases loaded walk.

MSUM (9-15, 2-4 NSIC) cut the lead to 2-1 in the third, but SMSU regained the three-run lead in the fifth as Johnson reached on a fielder's choice to score Emma Grote.

SMSU put the game away in the sixth as Decker belted a three-run homer to left field to push the lead to 6-1. Johnson added to the lead with a solo home run to start the seventh, before DeSmet closed the scoring with a run-scoring single.

In game two, SMSU broke open a 1-0 lead with a four-run fifth inning and cruised to the victory.

Decker, Schliinz, Clouse and Kali Tomlinson each finished with two hits to pace SMSU's 10-hit attack.

Megan Cull (2-6) picked up her second straight victory firing 6 1/3 innings and allowing two runs on seven hits with a career-high seven strikeouts.

SMSU opened the scoring in the first as Decker started the game with a double and later scored on a ground out by Johnson.

It remained 1-0 until the decisive fifth inning when SMSU scored four runs on two hits and one MSUM error. A sac fly by Kaylee Hentges plated the first run of the frame before Tomlinson smacked a ground-rule double to score two more runs. Clouse followed with an RBI double to make the score 5-0.

Decker led off the sixth inning with a single and later scored on a Dragon fielding error to give SMSU a 6-0 lead. MSUM scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, but SMSU added to the lead in the seventh scoring two runs on a three-base error by MSUM and an RBI single by Schliinz to extend the margin to 9-1.
