SIOUX FALLS, S.D. –The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team (1-2, 1-0 NSIC) travels to Sioux Falls on Friday for a conference game against Augustana (2-1-1, 1-0 NSIC) at 4 p.m. at Morstad Field. SMSU then travels to Wayne, Neb. on Sunday to face Wayne State at 1 pm.
The Mustangs earned their first victory of the season and in the conference opener against Sioux Falls last Friday. The Mustangs defeated the Cougars 4-1, led by Alli Miskowiec who scored three goals to earn her first career hat trick and one assist to Abbey Hoisington who scored her first career goal.
Miskowiec and Jessica Craigmile each earned NSIC Player of the Week after the victory over Sioux Falls last Frida. Miskowiec, who scored three goals and one assist, also finished with six shot attempts, including four on goal. Craigmile recorded 12 saves in the victory, SMSU's first road win since Sept. 18, 2016. She made five saves in the first half and added seven more in the second.
Augustana at a glance
Vikings are 2-1-1 and 1-0 heading into the contest on Friday night. Head coach since 2006, Brandon Barkus, has a record of 127-88-24, inclusive of four NCAA tournament appearances and one NSIC tournament championship. The Vikings defeated Wayne State 2-1 in their last match. Alexis Legg scored her third and fourth goal of the season. Goalkeeper Claudia Pueschner recorded four saves.
Series History
SMSU trails the series 4-15-1 after 18 consecutive years of contests. Mustangs snapped an 11 game losing streak on Nov. 2, 2014 with a 2-1 victory at home over the Vikings. SMSU have lost the last four consecutive games after the victory on Nov. 2.
