SMSU wrestling hosts MSU Moorhead for final home match

MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team (0-6, 0-5 NSIC) hosts MSU Moorhead (2-7, 2-3 NSIC) on Friday night in the PE Gym.
 
Friday's dual against MSU Moorhead is the final home match of the season
 
SMSU NOTES: SMSU dropped the dual to Minnesota State on Saturday, 22-9, after an early 6-0 lead. The dual started at 197 where Cole Hennen picked up his first conference victory of the season with a 7-3 win over MSU's Dylan Butts.
 
Andrew Petersen followed up with a 4-3 decision victory over Logan Linderbaum to secure the 6-0 lead. SMSU dropped the next four bouts before Cortez Arredondo continued his undefeated streak in the conference with a 3-1 decision over Daniel Close.
 
Arredondo is ranked No. 8 in the latest NWCA poll released on Jan. 11.

MSU MOORHEAD NOTES: The Dragons suffered a near loss to No. 19 Upper Iowa. The dual was tied at 15-15 heading into the final, 285 match, before Upper Iowa earned a 3-1 decision win for the victory. MSU's Cole Jones, Mason Schulz, Braydon Ortloff, Evan Foster, and Adam Blees each picked up an individual win.
 
Foster leads the team with a 22-12 record at 197 while nationally-ranked No. 10 Adam Blees at 174 has a 13-8 record and No. 7 Cole Jones at 125 has 20 wins this season.
 
SERIES HISTORY: MSU Moorhead leads the all-time series 27-20-1. The Dragons have won the past two consecutive meets and three of the last four. The Dragons broke a four-match losing streak with a victory in 2014-15 with a 25-15 victory in Marshall. The Dragons won the last meeting 25-13 in Moorhead.
