SMSU swimming & diving falls in first-ever NCAA II dual

MANKATO, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's swimming & diving team had its first-ever NCAA Division II meet on Friday night losing 192-74 to Minnesota State at the MSU pool.
 
Tonight was the first of nine regular season duals/meets SMSU will compete in this season under head coach Marty Wahle. SMSU announced the addition of the program in May of 2018.
 
SMSU was able to take home first place in one of the 16 events competed on Friday as Annika Freiburger won the 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:25.68.
 
MacKenzie Kallevig finished with a time of 1:58.68 to take home second place in the 200 yard freestyle and also finished second in the 50 yard freestyle at 25.61.
 
Addi Schroeder also had a solid night placing second in the 50 yard breaststroke at 31.85 and was second in the 100 yard freestyle at 56.27.
 
In 1-meter diving, Megan Nelson earned a third place finish with a score of 186.2.
 
SMSU continues its historical season on Saturday hosting Iowa Lake Community College at 1 p.m. inside the Don Palm Natatorium.
