MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team extended its winning streak to four in a row with a 4-0 victory over Minnesota Crookston in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action on Friday at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
SMSU, which is now 6-1 overall, 4-1 NSIC, used a pair of goals and an assist from
Alli Miskowiec, while
Abbey Hoisington added a goal and an assist.
Alex Lotts also scored for the Mustangs, while
Amanda Haimes registered her fourth shutout of the season collecting four saves.
Hoisington started the scoring for SMSU with a breakaway goal in the 21
st minute off a pass from Miskowiec. Moments later Miskowiec headed in a goal off a pass from Hoisington in the 23
rd minute to push the lead to 2-0.
UMC (0-6, 0-5 NSIC) had a great chance to cut the deficit in half later in the frame, but Haimes came through with a huge diving save on a penalty kick to keep SMSU in the lead 2-0 at halftime.
Miskowiec added to the lead with a goal in the 56
th minute—her third of the season—while Lotts later scored her third goal of the season in the 64
th minute to push the lead to 4-0.
Southwest Minnesota State, which is on its longest winning streak since 2013, continues play on Sunday with a huge match-up versus Bemidji State (5-2-1, 4-0-1 NSIC) starting at 1 p.m. SMSU is winless in its last five games versus BSU with the last victory coming in 2013.
