BROOKFIELD, Ill. – Southwest Minnesota State University junior wide receiver
Daniel Davis was recently named to the 2018 Don Hansen Division II All-American third team announced by the Don Hansen Football Committee.
Davis earned second team All-Super Region Four honors last month to advance to national ballot for All-American consideration.
The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published
Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988. Don Hansen's Football Gazette began selecting Division II All-Region squads in 2003.
Davis, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound, native of Tarpon Springs, Fla., led the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in both receptions (79) and receiving yards (1,113) and had a team-leading nine touchdowns in his first season with the team. A 2018 first team All-NSIC South selection, Davis was just the eighth player in program history to reach 1,000 yards receiving in a single-season. His 1,113 yards receiving ranks fifth in team single-season history. Davis had six 100-yard receiving games and caught six or more passes in eight games. He also finished third in the NSIC in all-purpose yards per game (116.5).
In the final Division II statistical rankings, Davis ranked ninth in receptions per game, 11
th in receiving yards per game and 14
th in total receiving yards.
Southwest Minnesota State finished the season 4-7 overall.
