WINONA, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State softball team was swept by No. 21 nationally-ranked, Winona State, on Friday afternoon with a 9-1 and 6-0 final at the Maynard R. Johnson Field in Winona, Minn.

SMSU drops to 11-11 overall and 6-4 in the conference while Winona State advances to 25-5 and 10-0 overall.

Game One
Â
WSU strung together three big innings to earn a 9-1 victory in five innings over Southwest Minnesota State in game one of the NSIC double header.Â
The Mustangs started with a solo homerun from
Abbie Decker in the top of one to score their only run. The Warriors responded in the bottom bring one in, then took advantage of big innings starting in the third with a four-run inning.

WSU added two more in the fourth and fifth for the win.
SMSU faced the reigning NSIC Pitcher of the Week, Jordyn Kleman (13-1) who threw five innings with nine strikeouts.Â
Athena Golling suffered the loss in the circle as she tossed five innings, allowing nine runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts.

Game Two

WSU put their first run on the board in the bottom of the first off two hits and an error by the Mustangs.

 The Warriors then scored in the next three innings for a 5-0 lead after four complete.
Â
NSIC Player of the Week, WSU's Allison Nowak went 3-of-4 in game two to lead the Warriors to the 6-0 shutout.

Megan Cull (4-4) was in the circle to throw six innings for two strikeouts.

Southwest Minnesota State (11-11, 6-4 NSIC) travels to Upper Iowa (12-13, 4-6 NSIC) on Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m.Â
