HOUGHTON, Mich.– The ninth-ranked Southwest Minnesota State women's volleyball team opened the season with a 3-0 loss to Michigan Tech as the Mustangs dropped set one 25-23, extended set two to 26-24, and dropped set three 25-17, on Thursday night at the Michigan Tech Classic.Â

The Mustangs strung together runs throughout the match, starting with a 5-0 run in set one as the Mustangs closed in on the Huskies to trail 12-11 before the Huskies called a timeout. SMSU went on another run to tie the set at 22-22 before MT pulled ahead to secure the 25-23 victory in set one.Â

The Huskies continued the momentum into the third set as they recorded a match-high .333 hitting percentage and only two errors as they secured the 25-17 victory.Â

Michigan Tech finished with a .205 hitting percentage and were led in offensive by Anna Jonynas with 11 kills. Grace Novotny led the Huskies' offense with 10 digs.Â
