MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State women's swimming and diving team opened the 2020-21 season tonight losing to Minnesota State, 205-73, inside the Don Palm Natatorium.
SMSU had several high place winners against a strong MSU team, which was picked to finish second in the NSIC.
Annika Freiburger earned a second place finish for the Mustangs in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:30.20.
In the 100 yard breaststroke,
Kendyl Near finished second with a time of 1:12.29 and was followed by teammates
Addi Schroeder at 1:13.15 and Freiburger at 1:13.39.
MacKenzie Kallevig picked up a second place finish of 5:37.61 in the 500 yard freestyle, while Freiburger came in third place at 5:46.27.
Near finished second in the 100 yard IM with a time of 1:03.46, while
Maija Geier was third at 1:06.96.
Southwest Minnesota State returns to action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. dual at MSU Moorhead.
