MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's soccer team closed out their 2021 exhibition slate with a 2-1 overtime victory against Dakota Wesleyan.
Early in the 98th minute,
Abbey Hoisington sent a corner kick to the opposite end of the six-yard box, where
Emma Dahnert connected with the back of the net to give the Mustangs a victory.
The Mustangs struck first, when
Alex Lotts found
Kirsten Wetterstrom for a goal in the 27th minute. SMSU held the lead for just over seven minutes before the Tigers scored to tie the game at the 34th minute.
The Mustangs were in control most of the game, holding a 59-41 advantage in possession %, while seeing 74% of their possession inside of the DWU zone. SMSU also held an 18-6 advantage in shots, while putting seven on target.
SMSU will open the regular season on Friday, Sept. 3, when they meet Black Hills State in Spearfish, S.D. to begin the regular season.Â
