BISMARCK, N.D.- The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team (1-3, 1-3 NSIC) suffered a 28-10 loss at the hands of the University of Mary (8-1, 2-1 NSIC) at the McDowell Activity Center in Bismarck, N.D., on Friday night.
 
The dual opened at 165 pounds, as Nathan Moore made his dual debut, trailing 1-0 through two periods before giving up a pair of third period takedowns to fall 5-3 to Leo Mushinsky. Max Bruss would defeat Carter Marx by decision, 8-1, at 174 to take a 6-0 lead. 
 
Caden Steffen would get the Mustangs on the board at 184, riding out a 4-0 decision to cut the UMary lead in half at 6-3. Matt Kaylor would respond for the Marauders, defeating Dillon McEachran by major decision, 9-1, at 197 to grow their lead to 10-3. 
 
Jacob Dykes would get the Mustangs back on track at 285, winning a hard-fought 8-4 decision over Dominic Tudor. Jaden Verhagen would cut off any chance of the Mustangs building momentum, making quick work of Jackson Stauffacher with a pin in 2:30 to grow the UMary lead. 
 
UMary would continue their dominance with decisions at 133 and 141 before Robert Shields would get SMSU back on the board with a 9-1 major decision, but Braydon Huber would close the match out with a victory by fall at 157 over Lucas Hodges. 
 
"The team showed good fight in the face of adversity and continued to have a positive attitude regardless of the outcome." said head coach Chayse Jackson. " I was proud to see our guys be responsible and gracious in the loss. We will turn our focus to tomorrow and come back swinging."
 
Southwest Minnesota State will be back on the mat tomorrow, traveling to Minot, N.D., to face off with the Beavers of Minot State at 2 p.m.
