MARSHALL, Minn. - Southwest Minnesota State student-athletes from the 2021-22 academic year were honored at the SMSU Athletic Department 17th annual Celebration of Excellence program held Monday night (April 25) on the campus of SMSU.
More than 125 student-athletes were recognized during the evening for earning All-American, All-Conference, Academic All-Conference and various other awards. A total of 49 senior student-athletes and 90 scholar student-athletes were honored during the evening.
Senior volleyball student-athlete
Angela Young from Conde, S.D., was named the 2021-22 Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while senior football student-athlete
Keaton Rommel from Davenport, Iowa, was named Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Young was also named the 2021-22 Female Athlete of the Year, while junior wrestler student-athlete
Caden Steffen from Zumbrota, Minn., received the Male Athlete of the Year honor.

Lily Schoknecht served as this year's senior student-athlete keynote speaker.
The SMSU Athletics Department would like to thank the SMSU Alumni Association and Mustang Booster Club for helping sponsor numerous awards for the program and a special thanks to Ryan Rohlik from Marshall Radio for serving as the program's emcee.
