KEARNEY, Neb. – The Southwest Minnesota State and Nebraska-Kearney women's soccer teams met on Sunday afternoon in a match that resulted in a 0-0 draw.
The Mustangs offense was aggressive from the jump, recording four shots on goal in the first 11 minutes, and finished the game with 11 shots (nine on goal), but could not find the back of the net.
The Lopers offense was held in check, recording just one shot on goal in the first half and four in the game.
Rachel Hicks held down the fort in net, sending away all four shots on goal that she faced, leading to a clean sheet in her Mustang debut.
SMSU had three players record multiple shots on goal, as Haleigh Young,
Kirsten Wetterstrom, and
Brooke Wetterstrom all put a pair of shots on net. Mackenzie Smith recorded a well-earned shutout, stopping all nine shots that went her way.
Southwest Minnesota State heads to St. Joseph, Mo., for a matchup with the Missouri Western State Griffons on Friday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. to wrap up their non-conference schedule.
